Alien Nine – Whaa?

I’m really disappointed with Alien Nine because I knew this was one of those shows that looks cute but isn’t. It didn’t satisfy me on the level I was expecting. Granted it was a special and not a TV series or even an OAV. So, I won’t be too harsh on it for not really giving me answers or really explaining anything. It was an interesting watch but mostly because I was expecting an answer by the end or some weird surreal shit to go down.

It was kinda trippy, and I suppose there was some symbolism, most of which I didn’t pick up on, but I did find this website that does have some interesting essays about the characters and series in general. After reading them it gave me a different outlook about the series in general.

I didn’t really like any of the characters especially Yuri since she was just a damn crybaby all the time, but perhaps the most sane of all the characters for this reason. I also couldn’t decide if I thought the character designs were interesting or just very weird. The characters had real big ears and no nose in a kind of Final Fantasy Tactics like fashion.

Alien Nine reminded me a lot of Narutaru although I didn’t come out of Alien Nine hating it as much as I did Narutaru. You have aliens, and like weird shit where kids have powers and gruesome stuff is going on. That kind of stuff. Not to mention both are horrible adaptions of their individual manga series. For different reasons though.

I suppose this was essentially to get people to read the Alien Nine manga and if I had the motivation I’d probably read it much like how I should read the Narutaru manga. I’m not too big on manga though. Oh well.

What I watched for Halloween this year: Devil Hunter Yohko

devil-hunter-yohko

For Halloween this year I watched Devil Hunter Yohko. It’s a 6 episode OAV from the early 90s and finished by 1995. It follows a teenage girl named Yohko Mano who has finally come of age and is granted some magic powers to fight demons. This is all because she is the next in line to become a Devil Hunter. Yohko really captures that typical girl given powers to fight evil. An all too typical story for us now, but in the 90s it was like WHOA. Honestly, this show is all too much like Sailor Moon but with a twist. Yohko just wants to be a normal girl and find a handsome boyfriend but she has to fight these damned demons that keep popping up every episode. Not to mention naked bodies everywhere.

From an historical and animation standpoint, it was interesting to watch because of just how much the show evolved by the final episode. For example in the first episode, Yohko’s mom is very liberal and urges her 16 year old daughter to have sex. Even to the point of throwing some condoms in her direction. In contrast to the last episode, where Yohko’s mom is dressed more conservatively and ARA ARA like. But this doesn’t mean that they toned down the T&A. There is a lot of nipple and naked bodies during transformation scenes. There is also a good amount of panty shots in fights too. The animation also is so different by the end. If I could split the episodes up I’d put 1,2 and 3 in a group and 5, and 6 in a group. 4 is just a music video and not really an episodes. In 1,2 and 3, Yohko is drawn to look more older and mature, but by the last two episodes she seems to be looking a lot more younger despite advancing a year in high school.

My favorite episodes were 5 and 6 but not just for the more familiar animation designs but the stories in these two were more solid and overall interesting to watch. The first three episodes just seemed too humorous. I could take these last two a little more seriously. The episodes themselves are all pretty much stand alone, but you should at least watch the first one first.

Missing these kinds of character designs. I’d watch CODE-E but I hear it’s garbage…

My favorite characters were actually the side characters. Yohko is okay but just the typical boy crazy lead. Also, now that I think about it, where the hell did she suddenly learn how to fight so well? Yohko’s grand mom is just awesome and grumpy. Azusa-chan is just the typical clusmy sidekick girl who can’t fight well, but she does chores and is more “loli” I guess? Yohko’s classmate just made me miss the old 90s character designs and glasses girls.

As a kid growing up in the 90s, I always wanted to see Yohko. The ADV previews just made it seem like it was worth watching. I mean, just look at the character designs. For the time, I thought they looked so COOL. Yohko’s sword is just kick ass looking as far as swords in anime go. There is even this scene in episode 3 where she stabs an opponent, but has something about to hit her in the back. Apparently the hilt can detach and be used as an axe as well. That was just freaking awesome scene I thought.

Ultimately, a fine watch. Pretty average by today’s standards, but at the time when it was released in the U.S it was such a big deal. No one had see anything like this before. Devil Hunter Yohko probably was a lot of people’s first anime. Old timers who have never seen this show might nostalgia from it, but newcomers to anime in the past 5 years probably won’t appreciate the charm and just plain ridiculousness of the show.

Is CLAMP back from the dead? I believe so

There is no way I like this girl!
You got it all wrong!

OMG. The character interactions between Kobato and Fujimoto have been so cute so far. I can’t help but remember my days of watching Cardcaptor Sakura in November 2004. I’m rather disappointed that I didn’t have much to say about it then. Regardless, I loved it and found it a solid show. I loved the character interactions and among my favorites were those between Sakura and Shaoran. It is just cute how Shaoran starts out so combative towards Sakura thinking nothing of her. She is only competition for him. At school he’s always degrading Sakura and making fun of her. But by the end of the series they get together in one of my favorite scenes in anime.

Absolutely cute.

CLAMP should really just disband and do character designs or whatever they’ve been doing lately with their involvement with Code Geass and other anime. CLAMP used to make some awesome stuff.

I said that back in May 2008 with my disgusted reactions to watching Tsubasa Chronicles. This has changed watching Kobato. I can’t help but feel nostalgia watching Kobato. Honestly, it is the first CLAMP work since CCS that I’ve really taken a liking to. Chobits was decent and I absolutely hated Tsubasa Chronicles which was in part due to Bee Train producing it.

Regardless, I just couldn’t like the meek and humble Shaoran. He was horrible. Sakura was flat. What was with those two guys, and the talking Mokona…? Don’t get me started. Just read my rants about the show if you’re interested.

Watching Kobato and Fujimoto interact I’m remind of Sakura and Shaoran. Sure they don’t fight and argue as much as those kids, but they’re older. Still it’s absolutely cute! Kobato is just this amazingly cheerful and a stylish dresser while Fujimoto is this Suzaku Kurugi clone with long hair and glasses. Don’t be fooled because he is just as aloof and female lead degrading as Shaoran. I can’t wait to see the romance kick into gear and the H doujins between these two. These two are the pair I wanted to see in Tsubasa Chronicles but didn’t.

CLAMP brought the girl in me out 5+ years ago with stuff like Rayearth, and Cardcaptor Sakura. During the times characters got together, I couldn’t help but KYAA over and over while watching such shows. It was cute then and it’s cute now with Kobato. I am happy that I don’t have to degrade CLAMP anymore. Now get to finishing X already! …please.

Feminine Attraction

kobato

I recently watched Kobato and it was nothing but lovely to watch. Kobato is the name of the main female character. She is so adorable and cute. Very much a pure girl, and honestly the kind of girl I definitely would want to meet in real life. She is not only adorable but a feminine dresser with a dash of clumsy. Would be nice if women would wear more feminine type clothing. As I stated before though, most women are bitches and whores, but not all women. Like the feminine woman.

I have fallen in love with Kobato

Add me to the damn list.

I love this show. It’s lighthearted and cheerful. This is the best show this season. I don’t give a shit if you think there is something better. I can’t believe it but I totally love CLAMP again. Kobato is just so adorable and cute. She is so HNNNGGGG. I am going to enjoy watching this one and YOU SHOULD TOO! This show is breaking my emotionless heart!

Kobato has great potential to be mai fourth waifu. But I can’t believe that for once I actually wish Kobato or a pure girl like her were real. Sigh I am so running away from reality.

No longer looks like a Hikikomori but still one on the inside

Seitokai no Ichizon – It stinks

Honestly, just what the hell did I spend 25 minutes of my life watching? This show is pure shit and lacks any form of originality. Only casuals who have seen high profile junk food anime garbage would like this crap. So dropped.

It’s sad because I actually like the main male character and he is a welcome change from the shitty male leads we see in these kinds of shows.

BITCHES AND WHORES

I think all of us elite anime fans can agree that 3D women are overrated. They’re smelly, bitchy and whores. Bitches and whores if you will. No 3D woman can compare to the cuteness of Maria or the moe hotness of Haruka Nogizaka. But I know what you’re thinking. “I’m going to get ronery!” You are absolutely right. 2D can never make up for real human contact, but I have a problem solver.

Buy more body pillows of your favorite characters. There exist tons and tons of body pillows of anime characters out there. So you’re bound to find many of your favorite characters. Next find a tape recorder. Tape phrases of your desired character and then proceed to put the tape recorder into the pillow. Voila! She’s practically a real person now.

Or if that is too costly for you then just buy Love Plus on the Nintendo DS. I do everything together with my virtual girlfriends from eating lunch in the cafeteria to going to the bar. Sometimes hot glue might even be involved. Make sure to have some Kleenex nearby my friends. Things get very intimate. We go on dates every Sunday and are very much in love. Who needs 3D when I have Manaka by my side 24 hours a day?

3D is extreme fail. I hate real woman and they aren’t good for anything except making me a sandwich. I can’t wait till Japan makes a machine to make anime girls real. Then I will never be sad and lonely. I am so tired of real woman and their lies, bitchiness and just how they act like whores.

Selective buying is superior

WAY too much.

Imagine living life filled with anime goods. A life where everything you bought meant something and had value. Nothing would become dusty or dirty. You know this really doesn’t happen so why go through all the trouble buying so much?

It really wasn’t until I had a part time job my freshmen year of college did I really dabble in the buying anime merchandise thing. Earning money was both a blessing and a poison since I really only bought anime merchandise. I bought a mass of stuff with that first paycheck because it was very impulsive. Overall over the course of having a job, it felt good to spend money and it didn’t feel wrong since I bought things I thought I valued after a while. I see the things I buy as a reflection of myself. The avid figure collector is stupid. Buy for the love of the character and not to spend money. Does anyone even buy figures for the sake of? I’m sure they’re out there. I prefer to make very selective buys. I think most people do too actually.

But is there a time when buying too much is too much? Yeah definitely, and it’s those type of fans that we see the most of for whatever reason. Probably as a way of showing off but is this really something to be proud of? I halfheartedly want to buy more stuff myself because even I can’t help but think that more = how much of a fan you are. Not to mention, I just want to subscribe to magazines to keep up to date on things in Japan. I just can’t seem to get the motivation to try and read out of date magazines that I currently have.

But whenever I do get that kind of impulse to buy random crap it’s probably better to just hold back. I think a figure or two a year is fine. If at least they’re things I enjoy. I haven’t had a job in a while though because of the economy. I resorted to selling some of my English manga over the summer. (I’m still trying to sell them!) So I was at least able to buy Mitsumete Knight. I enjoyed it so I don’t regret buying it.

I doubt I’ll ever part with any of the stuff I currently own, and I guess that is where the line is drawn. I believe that making precise worthy buys is good but even those kinds of buys add up after a while. I haven’t gotten to the point where I think I could ever sell the old things I own, but at least I’m a hoarder and not an impulse buyer.

Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu 2 – OJOSAMA! OJOSAMA! *headshot*

Wednesday, October 7, 2009 Koji Oe 2 comments

Yay! The long awaited second season of Haruka Nogizaka is here. I thought it was lawlzy but it was pretty standard for a first episode. Hinano sounded like she disliked it or was at least disappointed. She’s a woman so her opinion doesn’t count, but she isn’t exaggerating about the fanservice in it. It was a pretty fanservice intense episode, but I was meh to it and had a HNNNNGG face on. Basically. *FAP FAP FAP*

Um, WTF? Pantyhose where?

I was really angered by the opening theme. It’s cool, and I like how it keeps the theme of being from a anime magazine similar to Megami and what not but… Why the hell is Haruka wearing thigh highs? I don’t approve of this AT ALL.

I was actually fooled by the damn first seconds of the episode. I thought maybe I had downloaded a fake but it was just that watching anime inside an anime thing. MIND FUCK. So, all the characters went to a hot spring as if that isn’t new. They included some characters I have no idea who they were. I guess just sub sub characters who we’ll never see again after this episode. There is a new blonde haired maid character that is a loli. She doesn’t speak though and just makes noises and hits things with a spiked club. Haha oh wow. There was the occasional flashback to some of the things in the first season in case you FORGOT. Durr hurr hay guyz what’s goin on in this thread? Haruka has a secret?! I wonder what it could be? Maybe you should start with season 1 buddy.

I never get tired of these kinds of gags. I lawl’d hard.

You might be turned off by this first episode because of all the naked bodies. I hate seeing naked bodies myself. So filthy. I’m glad Japanese censors took it upon themselves to animate WALLS OF FOG to shield my innocent Victorian era eyes. The episode I watched actually didn’t have fog censors so the joke Hazuki made about the fog was less funny, but I could see how that would be funny if there were WALLS OF FOG.

But to except otherwise of Nogizaka Haruka is implying this show actually has any merit. Sure the romance is kinda cool bro but the fanservice and moe is where it is at too. It’ll probably harden up as the show moves on anyway. Even better it could turn into what happened with Ai Yori Aoshi Enishi and just be all fanservice and no plot for a season.

I watched this episode RAW and understood about 95% of it so I feel pretty relieved about this. I plan to just keep listening to this episode as the week goes on just as noise in the background and maybe I’ll pick up the 5% I had no idea what they were saying. I hardly found any words that I didn’t know over all. Felt like watching TV. Pretty cool actually. Really trying to wan myself off of subs bit by bit starting with this show. Isn’t this show already on Crunchyroll or something? I have no idea what that is but don’t they sub shows officially or something. Man, anime subs have gotten so weird lately. Back in the day, we DIDN’T have this garbage… BLAH BLAH BLAH.
