Yeah, so I’m currently watching Wedding Peach because there really isn’t much to watch this season. Wedding Peach is 1995-1996 era, and it really shows. It is hard to imagine how much anime has changed in just 12 years. This was a time where junior high school girls looked like they were in their 20s, or just starting to look their age and colors weren’t as blinding as they are in today’s anime.
The first three episodes were boring. I can see that not much has changed in 12 years in the Magical Girl (Mahou Shoujo) genre. Well, actually the last magical girl show I watched was Pretty Cure and before that it was Cardcaptor Sakura and before that was dubbed Sailor Moon. So, I haven’t really seen much magical girl shows.
I DON’T COUNT NANOHA AS MAHOU SHOUJO. NANOHA IS SOMETHING TOTALLY DIFFERENT.
The same old kind of thing. Introduction -> Problem ->Transform -> Beat up monster of the week -> Resolution. Though, watching these first 4 episodes it’s a little different. They transform twice. TWICE? Why? Why even bother transforming into a wedding dress when you’re just going to transform into something else a few seconds later. God, who even fights in a wedding dress? I know the show is called Wedding Peach, which is the name of the girl when she fights evil, but they’re really taking the theme of weddings a little far.
The first 4 episodes have been centering around weddings, brides, or wedding gowns. Episode 5 looks like it’s about an wedding anniversary. Episode 1 was just plain horrible, but I stuck it out because sometimes first episodes suck and are used just to get things going. Episode 4 kind of gave me the idea that it might be worth watching because there was actual development(drama), kind of…
I think I was just spoiled when I watched Pretty Cure because at least in that, Cure White and Cure Black attempted to fight the Zakena in hand to hand combat before going all DUAL AURA WAVE!!!!!!!!! This is exactly like Sailor Moon. Stall for time and then just use voice activated move to finish off monster of the week.
I say monster of the week, but there really haven’t been any monsters. It seems like in this show they just possess people so they can stop people falling in love or rather those who are in love for some reason. I’m not really sure what the plot is actually. I kinda hope in the next few episodes they kinda give a jist of what’s going on. :/
The characters seem okay. Typical bubble headed heroine(Momoko), reserved girl(Yuri) and tomboy girl(Hinagiku) as friends. Surprised to see that the heroine, Momoko was already friends with her future fighters againest evil. Being girls they want the affection of their senior (sempai), who is captain or something of the soccer team. Personally, being a guy, these parts are boring, and so far EVERY episode has started out with the girls trying to one up each other for this guy’s love. It’s always ruined by this guy Yousuke who also is a soccer team member. Yousuke and Momoko seem to have this thing going, I guess, since they’re always shouting at each other.
Voice actor wise, I was rather surprised to read that Yukana NOGAMI (Teletha from Full Metal Panic, Honoka from Pretty Cure, Mei Lin from Cardcaptor Sakura) does the voice of Yuri. I did some math and she was 20 when she took on this role. Surprising. I wasn’t expecting to hear any voices I was familiar with. I was surprised again when I hear Yuji UEDA’s voice for the character, Yousuke. That guy has been around forever in every anime I’ve watched from Fushigi Yugi to Honey and Clover.
Not really sure what to expect with this show.
