Code Geass 24-25

31 07 2007

Well, I’ve finally watched the last two episodes I’ve been anticipating all summer. To be honest, I’ve been let down to put it lightly. I really didn’t have any expectations and neither did I really imagine how things might play out. I’m not one of those kinds of people. As I watched I grew more and more angry at the amount of bullshit these last two episodes were. I waited months for this amount of fail? It’s like they threw random things just out there for the hell of it. I suggest to stop watching after episode 24 because I found episode 24 more watchable than 25, I guess. I for one am starting to believe the trolls when they claim Sunrise is making shit up as they go along.

The OP is horrible. Gone is the neat flashy openings from the other episodes. I was treated to a bunch of still frames and old footage from the previous episodes. I for one have seen eroge openings better than this. Not to mention the opening song is nothing all that great. Least over time I grew to like Kaidoku Funou and COLORS was an instant win, but this song is pretty meh.

Okay, the fail begins with the start of Orange-kun coming back and going after Zero pretty much for end of episode 24 and all of 25. That guy is a bubbling idiot. Hopefully he died at the end of 25 because he was really annoying shouting Zero this and Zero that. Maybe he was there for the lols but I wasn’t loling. I was right when I thought of it like that one guy coming back as a mecha in FMA. Retarded idea which was full of so much fail just like this Orange-kun thing.

The cat coming out of no where so the machine gun bullets wouldn’t hit Suzaku was the worst deus ex machina I’ve ever seen. Couldn’t they have made it something a little more believable like Cecile coming JUST AT THE RIGHT TIME or something like that?

At this rate, I can’t say I like ANY of the characters in Code Geass because they’ve all proved they’re retards. I kind of liked Lelouch for a while but he’s an idiot. He abandoned his army to their own devices. He is a horrible leader. I never really noticed it but he’s a selfish young man with a sister complex. He’s just turned into his father and will do anything to just get his revenge. He used everyone that had trust in him for his own ends. Suzaku had less fail in this episode but I never really liked him much either, but depending how things go I might like him later. I just want a likable main character for season 2! Rivalz or Kaguya anyone?

The worst thing of this entire ordeal was the stand off between Suzaku and Lelouch with guns pointed at each other, and Kallen just standing there like an idiot she has proved to be since episode 22 or whatever. A gun shot is heard as we watch Nunnally orgasm or something and then it cuts to…. THE CREDITS! I waited months for this and it cuts to the credits!? I’m such an idiot for not seeing that coming. I thought Sunrise would have the decency to give us some closure, but NO! I have to then sit through the credits as more footage from what I just watched plays in the background as C.C spouts some stuff about Lelouch, probably

Well that was the bad, and the good? It was a good episode. Watch it. The thing about Code Geass is it’s nothing all that special, but it doesn’t fail as one of those shows that can’t keep you entertained and wanting more each week. Sure the series had some bumps like the whole Mao and Shirely arc, but it was overall a good season.

I like how Suzaku punched Lloyd in the face as he was taunting him. I’ve been waiting for someone to shut that fag up. The battle scenes weren’t all that exciting but they were alright. I didn’t know Suzaku could dual wield and that was awesome. Maybe he always did but I never really noticed till now. The battle between Kallen and Suzaku wasn’t all that long, sadly. It’s hilarious how overpowered Zero’s mech is. He just fires his lasers and circles around hitting everything in the air. Seeing Cecile in one of those ‘it’s like wearing nothing at all’ suits was really worth it. I can’t really point out many good points because it was pretty much just enjoyable to watch. I can’t wait to see what season 2 will bring even after all that hate on these last two episodes.

The tl;dr

An okay and yet perhaps unsatisfying end to season one. There is always season two to look forward to. A lot of bullshit goes on but maybe it shouldn’t be taken so seriously. Just enjoy it for what it is.

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai 04

30 07 2007

Can’t wait for the single for the OP to come out. Even if it is the season 1 opening backwards it is pretty good. Not too interested in the ED song though.

Well the episodes are getting better. There was a lot less fun and games and more paranoia and suspense. Though I want more of the gang. Too much Satoko! I like Rika-chan a lot but it really does annoy me that Rika-chan is just pushing Satoko away when she is only being concerned. Rika-chan makes it seem like this kind of thing has happened before perhaps in another alternative time, and still thinks nothing can be done to change things. People are doomed to die and all Rika-chan can do is live each day out over and over.

The main suspense came from Satoko seeing this pedo stalker guy following her and Rika-chan around. Rika-chan claims she doesn’t see it when she most likely does. Satoko is determined to protect Rika-chan and herself and sets up traps and etc to ward off this pedo. Rika-chan knows what’s going on but does nothing to stop Satoko’s efforts.

The whole part with Rika-chan talking to Ooishi was alittle eh… Because I was like, “NOOOOO this is going to spawn so many horrible /d/ material doujinshi.” I’m talking about the whole, “I wet myself” thing that Rika-chan uses as an excuse of meeting Tomitake the night before he clawed his throat out again.

It seems like this arc is going for the whole great disaster ending where everyone dies, but from the previews it looks like Satoko lives, which is kind of an odd twist because only Keiichi lived that one time when Satoko pushed him off the bridge in season 1. Speaking of the previews, they’re actually kinda fun the conversations between Rika and Hanyuu which have nothing really to do with the next episode. Pay attention to them because they’re entertaining.

Otakon = Awesome

27 07 2007

Simply put Otakon was awesome. A hell of a lot better than last year’s since it seemed like I did a lot more than last year than just walk around the entire time. It made a big difference that we had an actually hotel. Even though the shitty hotel billed us for absolutely everything. Also, the hotel was a little far away from the convention center but in walking distance.

I really didn’t do much as far as panels go since most of the panels are shit and didn’t seem interesting. Otakon for me is really the atmosphere and the Dealer’s Room. I was really disappointed with the merchandise this year. There wasn’t much in terms of my favorite characters. It pretty much just turned into a Haruhi themed buys. I got 3 Mikuru figures (See below), a 5 pack gashapon pack of Haruhi characters, and where I should have gotten Haruhi I got an extra Mikuru. Other buys included the 3 Higurashi no Naku Koro ni PC games, a magazine which had some images of mai waifu, Yukari Tamura, and a Yoakena artbook. I didn’t spend a whole lot of time looking for posters or jewelry this year.

There were a lot of loli and jb there which was hot and made me a little depressed because there were actually a lot of cute girls there. Where I am from there are hardly any anime fans. I saw a few faces I could have sworn I saw before from the last Otakon.

I liked how they actually had more autograph sessions. I was able to get Mamiko Noto to sign the base of my Yakumo Tsukamoto figure I bought last year at Otakon, and I was able to get Sakimoto to sign my FFT manual. I only went to the Mamiko Noto Q&A panel but the second one since I wanted to camp the autograph line on the first day since I didn’t know how screwed over I’d be. Anyway, the panel sucked because people suck. People ask shitty questions. They should just stick to anime questions, and not personal or probing questions. The best question asked probably was something like, “Who do you think Harima from School Rumble should get with?” Noto’s reaction was hilarious. She had her hands on her face going, “Ummmm…. Uhhhh….” And seemed really perplexed by it. She then suggested, “…Hanai?” It was funny. There was like no one in the second Q&A though.

The Eminence concert was okay but kinda shitty since they kept playing songs from Romeo and Juliet which like most people probably haven’t seen since it’s only being fan subbed. Only good songs they played were Radical Dreamers, and Pain (piano solo). They didn’t have an orchestra so they couldn’t play anything from FF12. They played a lot of Mario songs at the end which sucked because it’s so old. Needed more Zelda tunes, and basically things I knew.

Friday I walked around with a sign after watching some episodes of Lucky Star on Friday. I feel kind of bad since I actually like Lucky Star now. The picture is provided from someone who happened to have seen my sign and posted it on /a/. I lol’d.

untitled.jpg

The 4chan panel was shit. The line was a lot better than the actual panel. That is the first and last 4chan panel I go to. I wanted to watch Higurashi that Saturday and shout, “USO DA!” but Erik just had to go and get drunk during the 4chan panel so there went that idea.

Otakon was really fun. Can’t wait for next year! This marked the end of my summer. School is right around the corner. 夏が終わりです。

Lucky Star is awesome

23 07 2007

So, I guess I like Lucky Star now. Only in this tired, mellow and low mood state could I stand to watch Lucky Star episode 1 and it really wasn’t all that bad. The useless babble talk was actually kinda interesting. Konata is awesome and is an anime fan/gamer. I like Miyuki since she is basically all my fetishes rolled into one. I just found it a lot more interesting this time around for some reason.

Lucky Channel is funny too. The whole thing about the pay of idols made me wonder if this is how Yukarin is. All cute on the outside for fans but bitter in real life. Lol.

I probably won’t cover this show so late in the season unless I find something really interesting as I watch.

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai 03

23 07 2007

I don’t know. I haven’t really been liking these string of episodes at all. Maybe it’s because the focus is away from Keiichi and now on Rika-chan, but she is acting so emo and whiny. It is justified, but that’s all that has really been going on. Things are going very slow.

Mainly this episode focused on Rika and Satoko. Satoko is a little suspicious of Rika-chan because she isn’t acting like she usually does. We hear Hanyuu in the background as she talks to Rika-chan at night but Hanyuu isn’t seen at all. Ooishi shows up in this episode but doesn’t do much yet.

As a sidenote, I watched the first season of Higurashi at Otakon and then I watched this episode yesterday. You really notice the animation differences. I kind of liked the first season artwork in a QUALITY kind of way.

Hopefully the show starts kicking off soon. I should probably rewatch the episode and do a better post about it since I was half asleep as I watched it… It’s a lot better then this.

Off to Otakon!

20 07 2007

Otakon starts today. I’ll be leaving in a few hours since I’m the one driving everyone down. We have a really weird plan set up and I hope it all works out. Least we have a hotel this year.

I’m going to camp the Mamiko Noto and Hitoshi Sakimoto panels. I’m bringing my Yakumo Tsukamoto (School Rumble) figure I bought last year for Noto to sign and my Final Fantasy Tactics manual for Sakimoto to sign.

Hopefully this year we have more room to just roam around because I’m really the only weeaboo out of all of us going down, and I really want to enjoy this year’s con by going to stuff and what not. 4chan panel is a must go.

I wonder what goodies and stories I’ll have when I get back?

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai 02

15 07 2007

I have some mixed feelings for this episode, but I guess this arc is a better one than anything else since everyone is happy and joking around for now playing tag and what not. It’s good to see the whole gang again. Hear Ni-pah a few times. Keiichi is still GAR and awesome. Keiichi wasn’t the only one that was effected by Rena’s skills at the end. I think I’m falling for Rena a little just a little now.

Takano, Irie-sensei and Tomitake show up and mention the Hinamizawa Disaster and what not. Probably the only real eerie part of the episode along with Rika-chan’s lamenting while drinking some wine.

Rika-chan is still keeping everything to her self which pisses me off. From what I’ve heard about game, she has tried telling the others about everything but it doesn’t work, and the same goes for just trying to flee from Hinamizawa. Well, this is the anime and as far as I remember she hasn’t tried either. I think this is one of those things where the anime falls short of the game. So, I think the brooding Rika-chan in the anime isn’t justified because I don’t know anything about the methods she has tried since I haven’t played the game. It just seems like that she has given up perhaps from the start. Though, I don’t know. Maybe Rika-chan is just as mysterious in the game.

I absolutely loathe Rika-chan’s more adult sounding voice because it’s Yukarin speaking. I’m a fan of her more cutesy and high pitch voice. Her normal voice just frightens me because I’m not used to it from her normal roles and songs she sings.

The animation still going strong. The constant normal faces to chibi faces is interesting and cute! Rika-chan seems to do it the most along with Satoko. Least, that’s what I noticed. I absolutely love how everyone looks better and not so skinny and what not like in season one. Satoko and Rika-chan look a lot more like children which I noticed instantly.

Overall a pretty entertaining episode like the “fight” in the beginning between Keiichi and Satoko, the game of tag and its results, but I am still waiting for the drama and suspense to kick in.

Galaxy Angel Season 1

13 07 2007

I’m not going to summarize the entire series but Galaxy Angel is a good show worth watching. Each episode is only about 13 minutes long and they’re kinda like one long 4 koma. Some of the more serious episodes seem uncharacteristic of the series but there are a very few of them. The episodes themselves are episodic so they can be watched in any order. The characters are lovable and memorable and hard to like just one. Watch it or die.

Nanatsuiro Drops 02

13 07 2007

This show continues to be constantly cute but this episode was actually on the sad side, I guess. To be honest, I like the second half of the episode more than the first half. The first half seemed like a jumble of different plot points that they just had to put in. Like going from being at school to outside to then getting one of those drops and lastly we’re treated to a bunch of flashback clips. It just seemed like it was all jumbled together quickly. Also, it appears that Sumomo’s mom was a magical girl once or just has weird taste in clothes.

The second half of the episode is where the main focus of the episode is the whole thing about Sumomo’s friend finding out she is a magical girl and what not.

What confuses me is why Yaeno, Sumomo’s friend, didn’t even question Sumomo about what she saw. Maybe it’s to show they’re really good friends OR maybe things are getting CUT OUT from the game. It does feel like things are getting cut and ridiculously too. Especially the ecchi scenes aren’t getting shown. I can understand the hentai being taken out but the ecchi scenes! Well, at least they’re not just toying around like in Yoakena where we had like that one up skirt in episode 1 and there was nothing after that.

Tsuwabuki, the main male, is probably the least impressionable guy I’ve come across in awhile. How can Sumomo seem to like a guy like that? The teacher guy was in this episode for like a second. I forget his name and I just rememeber him as Itsuki named after the guy that seems gay in Haruhi. This time he usues a tennis racket to send Yuki-chan on his way. Probably the highlight of the episode.

Looks like the rival character appears in the next episode. I wonder how this will go?

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai 01

9 07 2007

My reaction after watching this was that of the reaction I got playing Suikoden 3. That was, “What the fuck is this shit? Where are the old characters I grew up loving?” God this is the worst episode I’ve seen in a while. This episode even made episode one of Lucky Star look good because at least the whole food discussion ended.

When I saw an old Ooishi-san I knew this episode was going to be massive fail. So you have that one dude who was all pedo for Rika-chan, his junior in his detective job and Ooishi-san. They literally spend half the episode talking about the various conspiracy theories surrounding the whole Hinamizawa Disaster. If I wanted to watch conspiracy theories I would have watched Zeitgeist the movie over again. Nothing I hate more than a talking recap episode with nothing new to report. I hate recap episodes in general. Sometimes they’re okay but generally they’re for retards. I guess the whole after the fact angle was okay, but god damn, I want to see the old gang in the FIRST EPISODE. Not this BULLSHIT. You do this kind of stuff in the middle of the series. I wanted to hear Rena’s USO DA, Rika-chan’s NI-PAH, and Satoko’s NI NI. I wanted to see Shion/Mion’s huge rack. Let’s not forget Keiichi because he’s bad ass. I wanted some drama or tension to sink my teeth into. Like how in season one, I was on the end of my seat with every episode.

Things I liked about the episode? Well not much. The OP animation is superb. I really loved it. I really wonder how long the animation quality will last, though? It’s so odd and creative that the OP song is just season one’s song played backwards. Kinda gives me a chill. I do miss the eerie feeling I got with season one’s OP. This new one is more Pop. The ED song didn’t really impress me. A lot of focus on Rika-chan during the opening animation. I’m guessing there is going to be a lot more focus on her which is nice. She’s really cute. I really like her school uniform and those knee socks with the little red balls on the side. Yay Yukarin’s voice too~

There is an older Rena in this episode, and I guess that’s kinda cool. It doesn’t help that she is all depressed and emo though. It’s within reason, but a cheerful Rena is a nice Rena. We do get short clips of the old gang too, but it’s like a cock tease if anything else.

Take it from me. You’re better off just waiting for episode 2 to get released because you’re not really missing much if you just wait it out. It would probably be even better because I can only guess episode 2 is when the massive WIN kicks in.

I hope…
