3. Sakurai Asahi
I picked up the Comic Party visual novel some time after I watched the first TV series. Yeah, that badly butchered one we’re they’re all in high school, and some how know each other. The game is a lot different than that series and the second TV series, Revolution, is a lot better and more faithful to the funny hijinks that is Comic Party. I really hope they make more of that version. It was hilarious.
Asahi really doesn’t get much spotlight in either of the series and is probably due to her actual story and being a voice actor idol. So, Mizuki, Emi, Yuu, and those characters seem to get more air time. Playing the visual novel, the dreamcast version mind you, I went through Yuu’s story first because she was a glasses girl, and she was fairly okay.
Checking the manual I really wondered who this character Sakurai Asahi was because I only saw her like once in the course of the game. This was around the time I actually started to use online guides which still help me today. So, deciding to see just who this character was I loaded up a guide and went in without really knowing what to expect. How little did I know I would really enjoy her story and find it so touching and beautiful.
What attracts me to Asahi is of course her shy personality. She constantly stutters when she speaks too. She wears glasses but usually only in her Momo personality. She uses a different name and what not so she doesn’t attract attention to herself because she is actually a popular voice actor. Satomi Karoogi, her voice actor for the dreamcast version, does a really great job at doing Asahi’s voice. It is very cute. Asahi’s story basically centers around her overcoming her fears of speaking for herself without a script, and what not. It’s been a while since I’ve gone through it, but it was very cute and I loved it. Especially the part where Asahi is on stage and basically tells her fans how she loves someone and ex cetera. The fans respond positively and she gives one last concert. Also, never play fighting games againest a popular voice actor. You won’t win.
If you’ve gone through the eroge version the sex scenes actually have a point in Asahi’s story, and this just makes her story all that more AWWWWW in my opinion. I like the eroge end CG more than the DC version’s honestly. I really like the ending dialogue as well. Very cute. Not the best translation but…

【和樹】はあ……。
Kazuki: Ha….
【あさひ】ホント、和樹さんたら……。ダメなパパさんですね。ね？
Asahi: Really, Kazuki-san…. You aren’t a good papa-san, right? Don’t you think?
【和樹】ご、ごめん。ど、どうも、いつまでたっても、その……ヘンにさわったら壊しちゃいそうで……。
Kazuki: I- I’m sorry. Thanks for everything, if he’s in the area and touches something it might break….
【あさひ】くす……あ、泣きやみましたね。
Asahi: Shhh….Ah, he stopped crying.
【和樹】うん……あ、俺が抱こうか？
Kazuki: Yes…Ah, can I hold him?
【あさひ】いいんです。あたし……もう少し抱いていたいんです。だって……。あたしと和樹さんとのコだから……。
Asahi: It’s alright. I… For a little longer I want to hold him because… He is mine and Kazuki-san’s child after all….
あれから、もうどれくらい経つのだろうか？あの出来事はもう、ずっと昔のことに思えてならない。俺は大学を休学して、あさひをつれて……あそこから、すべてから逃げるように旅立った。それからもいろんなことがあった……。彼女とは何度もケンカした。そのたびに彼女を泣いて、俺も自分が情けなくて泣いた。彼女とはもう終わりだと思ったこともあった。それは彼女も同じだった。だけど……。……。

Kazuki: If it becomes painful, immediately say so. This is our precious child after all.
【あさひ】はい……。
Asahi: Yes….
【和樹】……。

これで、よかったんだな。きっと……これで……。失ったものはたくさんある。だけど、あさひがここに残って、このコが手に入ったならそれでいい……。

【あさひ】どうかしたんですか？
Asahi: What is the matter?
【和樹】この子、俺たちの子供だと思ったたら、なんか妙な気分になるよな……。こんなこと、最近まで考えてなかったから。くすぐったい感じがする。
Kazuki: This child, this is our child, I thought. Somehow it’s become a strange feeling…. This feeling, not until recent had I thought about it. It’s a ticklish kind of feeling.
【あさひ】あたしも……同じです。だから……。
Asahi: I do as well…. Feel the same too…
【和樹】このコには、あさひみたいにかわいくて素直なコになってほしいな。
Kazuki: This child, resembles you, I want it to be cute and docile.
【あさひ】え？ で、でも……。あたしは……性格はあなたに似て欲しい……。あたしみたいだと、きっと苦労するから。そんなこと、もういやだから……。好きな人といられなくなるようなことがあったら、きっとこのコも泣いちゃうから。
Something about that the child is like her it will face hardships or something or other. I’m probably wrong.
【和樹】大丈夫だよ、きっと……。俺とあさひの子供なんだから。そうだろ。このコもきっと乗り越えられるよ。
Kazuki: It will be alright, surely…. Because of our child. Truely. This child too will overcome things without fail.
【あさひ】はい……。
Asahi: Yes….
これからは、３人で……。そして、このコが大きくなったら行こう。あの場所に……。こみっくパーティーに……。
After this, the 3 of us…. when this child becomes older and we’ll go. To that place…. Comic Party….
