New Sakura Taisen Game – It’s a dungeon crawler!

I’ve been a Sakura Taisen fan since 2000 and I really didn’t like Sakura Taisen 5 all that much, but this new game for the DS looks awesome!

According to Taishou Legend the story is as follows:

It is the Spring of the 18th year of Taishou (1929), and the Teikoku Kagekidan is rehearsing their new performance “The Girl of Orleans”, but soon they will have to face another menace waiting in the wings. It will take the combined might of all the maidens of the Tokyo, New York and Paris assault forces to face the threat posed by the resurrected Jeanne D’Arc and her associates.

This has me a little worried though, but I am just going to assume this takes place in some ALTERNATIVE world where Oogami didn’t pick a girl at the end of ST4. Also from the screen shots I’ve been looking at on the official website, Oogami is grouped strictly with either the Teito girls or the Paris girls and not a mix of both and none of the American girls, and this is likewise for Taiga. Taiga is only grouped with the American girls. So, I don’t know if this is strictly for the screenshot or if the game has a few different play settings, but I really hope this isn’t the case. I want to be able to be Oogami and mix match and such. My group would probably be something like Hanabi for ultimate special between her and Oogami, Iris for healz, and someone else to tank.

I’m guessing this game is something like the Chocobo Dungeon games or Azure Dreams and I honestly loved those. Especially Azure Dreams but this game looks like you keep your levels so that is cool. I’m a little worried about the Kanji and if I can read it well enough because I don’t want to screw up stuff or miss out on stuff, but since when has language ever been a barrier for me to enjoy something? This actually might be a good Kanji builder since I’m really hyped up to play it.

So awesome that it seems to still have retained that date sim element. There seems to be events you can flag with the girls and do the specials with them like in the other games. There also seems to be this thing where you can call out a girl by using the built in DS mic at certain times. Now that is going to be weird. There seems to be rehashed voice clips in battle but I can deal with that.

I wonder if this will be a “true” end to the series or this could be just some fun little side story? Either way I really want to try this game out.
