Why is Tsubasa Chronicle so BORING?

KYAAA! So cute!

You’d think a story about an older version of Shaoran and Sakura would be great but in actuality it isn’t. Now, I have only read volume one of the manga, but that seems to follow the anime pretty well and that wasn’t any better.

Anyway, what is it about this show that makes it so boring? Is it because of Bee Train the studio that brought us such great (read: boring) series such as .hack//sign, Arc the Lad, and Wild Arms: Twilight Venom? The pacing just freaking blows in this series. I just started season 2 today and memories about how boring season 1 was are coming back to me. Although, I will say that the last world they visited in season 1 was neat because it had an interesting plot twist I didn’t expect, but that world was like the last one they visited. The rest of the show was such a bore fest. I can’t say I like the OP and ED too much either to this 2nd season. Blaze and Loop were so much better.

Why am I forcing myself to watch this? Well, I like the characters. Shaoran and Sakura are my all time favorite CLAMP couple, and the every now and then crossover stuff is kinda neat even though CLAMP is just milking their own stuff. But what old franchise isn’t anymore? I kind of have a desire to see what kinds of worlds they might visit, but then if it’s a shitty world like what they’ve been currently getting into it’s such a downer.

I think I complained about the voices not being the same voices from CCS, but not so much now watching season 2. Yui Makino does a decent enough Sakura, and how I might imagine her voice to sound if she was older. It sounds similar to Sakura Tange in some instances…. Least I think so. I kinda like the keigo using Shaoran now, but I still like the younger ruder punk he was in CCS. By the way, if you haven’t seen CCS yet you better get to that soon because it is a classic as far as magical girl shows go. Don’t worry. I only just finished it in 2005 myself.

I don’t think this show will get any better and reading some of Hinano’s entires about it isn’t giving me any positive reassurance. Although, I’m usually one to see a show through to the end no matter how shitty because I’m an anime fan and I like having that extra notch in my belt so I can say I watched it.

OH SO NERDY.

XD no it doesn’t get any better, in fact it turns into TsuBUSa Chronicles about episodes of busses lol.

The OVA (tokyo revelations) was pretty good though. In all honesty reading the manga is probably the best bet, although the manga is getting pretty weird now too.

At first I thought this was a satirical piece, but then, I sadly realized it was not. The first volume of Rurouni Kenshin was pretty boring too.

I could not pass episode 1. It was sooo boring for me

NO, don’t make the same mistake as so many others have, boot out quickly and skip to the Tokyo Revelation OVAs!! In all seriousness, the 2nd season of Tsubasa turned out to be twice the borefest the first season was. Like you said, the final arc in the first season was sort of a saving grace in the end, but the second season’s only one would probably be Tomoyo in the Piffle arc :P (I’m still miffed they removed Yamazaki from the arc in the anime though)

I think Tsubasa looks boring for several reasons:

    1) Like you had mentioned, the animation was done by Bee-Train. The original CCS was done by Madhouse. The two studios are like night and day in terms of animation quality.

    2) Tsubasa was targeted at young boys, while CCS was mainly for girls. Having been used to the sweet, fluffy, relationship-oriented, Sakura-focused version of CCS makes the complex, action-oriented, Syaoran-focused Tsubasa hard to swallow.

    3) Even though Tsubasa portrays Syaoran + Sakura in grown-up versions, there is nothing else borrowed from CCS aside from the characters. Tsubasa is not just a continuation of CCS, and its complex storyline pales in comparison to the story in CCS.

    4) CLAMP tried too hard to milk the series this time around, and lost focus somewhere down the line.

Have fun wasting time on the rest of the Tsubasa episodes. =P

Ouch… i was already hooked….. gets extremely good at the ovas which i forget where that is in the manga… because the formula of the series is then changed a bit… if you didnt like the start, then you probably wont like the rest, as it is a lot of the same…

I found it a fun ride in bulk though…

  7. Smily Says:

i just dun really like the idea of a clone Syaoran and Sakura

I tend to avoid anything Bee Train. Such yawners like .hack-anything and this Tsubasa Chronicle, I literally ‘fall asleep’ sometimes.

They can milk Sakura and Syaoran to eternity but the CCS story will still be their shining moment.

Well, it appears many others share my sentiments as well.

  10. Baka-Raptor Says:

The manga might be boring, but the anime has the greatest soundtrack ever. I love Yuki Kajiura.

  11. Koji Oe Says:

Baka-Raptor@ Yeah, it has its moments, I guess. I like A Song of Storm and Fire mostly.

Koji Oe Although the traveling through worlds part does seem to be lacking and repetitive, for some reason I didn’t care, or rather ignored completely. I guess CLAMP’s “universe” factor was as important to me as you, well- probably more so :P
of course it also covered several other big points with me, so the lack of variety wasn’t that big of a deal. I was disappointed that the second season ended with way too many loose ends (probably enough that it would take another whole season to tie them all up properly) but the 3 OVAs greatly exceeded my expectations in pulling this off. Sure there was still some left wanting, but it’s not like it’s really possible to compress 26 episodes into 3 and be perfect, so it was nevertheless satisfying overall.

ps- the OVA is a lot better than the series IMO, particularly in the action sequences, albeit a bit over-exaggerated. In addition, the second season starts getting better halfway through- so you should look forward to it.

the anime is boring because it was made too soon, so they had to strech episodes and make fillers.
    the ovas are amazing tho.
    but the manga rules!

  14. Myrah Says:

My thoughts on the anime: Screw it. The only good thing about this Bee Train monstrosity was the soundtrack. If the rumors I heard were correct, even CLAMP got pissed with Bee Train and told them no way to a third season, (something about them trying too hard to make Fai seem at least possibly straight).
As for the OVAs, they are amazing, and easily one of my favorite pieces of animation. I am joyous to hear there are more in the works.
Now, the manga. I am a fan of CCS, but I must admit that it is really Fai and Kurogane that I am reading, (and buying), TRC for. I fell in love with those two dudes. Anyway, don’t give up on the manga. You must make it to the Acid Tokyo Arc, you must!

  15. Koji Oe Says:

Myrah@ Hah. I never heard CLAMP did that. Seems possibly. I would want to see more like the OVAs. Maybe I should pick up the manga once again when I get back to America then.
