Fushigi Yuugi Eikoden – You get this when you animate a bad fanfic
Ok, I’m not the biggest Yuu Watase fan, but I kinda liked Fushigi Yuugi. Pretty fun for 26 episodes and then gets kinda shitty after that but a pretty decent show overall. Hey, it was one of my first gateway anime so maybe I’m just being easy on it. :/ Anyway, the 2 OAVs made after that were pretty bogus, but I took it. I didn’t quite understand how, what and why everything was going on but I took it.
Fast forward 13 years later and I just can’t take this Eikoden OAV the same way I was able to for the first two. This thing is just horrible, and I’m not sure why for the past five days I’ve been torturing myself with mediocre OAVs and Tsubasa Chronicle. I must love pain…
The first thing wrong with it is the heroine is just plain unlikable. She is a total bitch that definitely needs a punch to the face. She’s just an emo bitch that is probably feeling the way she is due to her period. I don’t care if they wanted to make her a character that people could relate to. How can I relate to her anyway? She’s a freaking jaded bitch. Her problem is she’s in love with Taka (Tamahome’s persona in the real world) but can’t have him because he loves and is married to Miaka. Honestly get over it, girl.
You’d think it would be interesting to see the reincarnated Suzaku Seven, but it really isn’t. I knew right away this was gonna be shit when Chiriko was talking perfectly but in the form of a baby. A baby talking? Haha oh wow. ::face palm:: Mostly everyone else is a bunch of kids…
If there is ANYTHING at all that is good to say about this is the animation. It’s actually not THAT bad. Definitely better than the animation of the early Fushigi Yuugi series and some of the CG that is used in some instances isn’t overly horrible. Also, Yui just seems to get hotter with each OAV.
Eikoden really doesn’t add anything to the Fushigi Yuugi story. It’s the same old plot where something or someone is trying to break up the relationship between Taka and Miaka like we haven’t seen that before amirite? Even if you’re a diehard fan of the series, I don’t think you’d enjoy Eikoden either. Avoid it like the plague. Eikoden was produced in 2001. So, that’s five years after the run of the TV series and three years after the 2nd OAV. In my opinion, the series has really stayed alive too long by that point.
Fushigi Yuugi was one of the first anime series I watched, and when I saw the OVAs, I was shocked to learn that anime could be terrible. Haven’t even thought about watching Eikoden.
You’ve been going through some rough times. Put down the crap and watch something good. You deserve it.
Baka-Raptor@ I know right. ::sob:: ::sob:: But I’m sure all this pain will make all the great stuff I have planned to watch SO much better.
THE SUMMER HAS JUST BEGUN!
“been torturing myself with … Tsubasa Chronicle”
lmao!! yea, i gave up on like the 3rd episode. bee train ruined the whole thing imho D;.
@Koji Oe, I avoided it for a long time based on your review, but eventually curiousity got the best of me. First OVA was like, ok- it’s not all that bad, 5/10 overall- not as bad as Koji Oe made it out to be. But in the 3rd and 4th OVA’s, that B*tch’s true colors came out, and it was torture. had to console myself by forcing myself to translate it into a shaky sort of satire. 4th OVA was about 3/10- good they straightened that girl out (albeit- not realistic at all- but then again, Yui’s (original fushigi yuugi) wasn’t much better- so cut them some slack), but they focused so much on dramatic that the ending is a blatant “wtf???” wait, didn’t everyone just die!?! talking about “hanging a lantern on it” ! As much as I hate to say this, a romance outside the Universe of the 4 gods would have been much better, even if we did have the B*tch as a 3rd wheel. I call her that because I can’t remember her name, and that name’s more suited anyway :P
so, IMHO, 5/10 + 2/10 + 2/10 + 3/10 divided by 4= I rate it “3/10″
people so self-absorbed and closed minded- nothing makes me more depressed :(
if you think it’s alive too long, It’s never too long :-) the anime for the prequel (by the original author yuu watase of course) is probably coming in the next 1-2 years, considering the manga is already compiled into several volumes and still ongoing.
I’m looking forward to that anime, b/c it’s not an over-glorified fanfic, but it’s better than Fushigi Yuugi at least in terms of animation, due to technology.
with technology these days, anyone can make a decent movie for next to nothing (outside time). In fact, that’s what I plan to do (well not a movie, more like a next-generation amv/etc. hybrid- still working on the idea though
