I can’t believe this is a sequel let alone a homage to Gunbuster. I don’t even feel the motivation to continue past episode one. This is garbage. It’s pretty garbage because that’s all it has. Nice animation and action. This shit is such a product of the time it was produced. For me, one episode is enough to determine if something is worth watching unless I really want to continue watching regardless if it’s shit or not. Right now I don’t feel like trudging through more shit. Not after watching the awesomeness that is Gunbuster.
That is probably what I’d say if I watched the first episode of Diebuster when Gainax was originally releasing each episode over the course of a few months. On the whole it was okay. It had its moments where I honestly cried manly tears, but it really wasn’t my thing. Sure, it was a parody of most shows from the 90s and Gunbuster was mostly a parody of stuff from the 80s. It was a good thing I watched Gunbuster not too long ago since I was able to catch a lot of the references and such which was actually cool.
Even still, I found Diebuster on the boring side, and the first 3 and just close to the end of episode 4 really didn’t do a good job of getting me into the story, setting and characters. It was fluff basically until episode 5. I feel the same way I did about Diebuster as I did FLCL. It has pretty animation, nice effects, good music, but the plot and characters just didn’t pull me in.

I’m with you on this one. Gunbuster absolutely blew me away, but Diebuster did absolutely nothing for me. Nothing about it wowed me or engaged me like Gunbuster. The only things I liked about Diebuster were Fukui Yukari voicing Nono (it was neat to hear Nia’s voice (Gurren-Lagann) in a more lively role), and the ending (and I mean what happened at the very, very end).

I beg to differ. Diebuster is great so long as you don’t compare it to Gunbuster at all.
Also Nono is hot.
Also also there I think Diebuster is a lot better made the Gunbuster, but lacks the raw spirit.

To be fair, I think I probably wouldn’t have rated Gunbuster so highly if I seen it at the time it was produced. Being someone who is watching it after the fact, I’ve definitely seen concepts and themes that would later go on to be used in future anime so not only did I rate Gunbuster by how much I enjoyed it but also it’s impact on anime in general.
Gunbuster is definitely a classic but Diebuster is just okay. I plot twist ending was kinda like, “Whoa.” Though.

I watched Diebuster before Gunbuster and they both really left a great impression on me although it may not have if i watched them the other way around…

Wow, 100% opinionated.
Just a tip: never post like this on /a/. It’ll make people hate you. Diebusters was supposed to be a quick treat for the fans. You’re thinking too much about it. And your blatant hate for FLCL is disturbing. One of the reasons why Anon will always label you as a troll is because you don’t know when to keep it to yourself. The legendary tripfriend Cirno for example never insulted another person’s show. Now don’t get me wrong. There’s nothing wrong with insulting a show like Code Geass. The reason for this is because Geass’s plot can be legally diagnosed as shit. Meaning one can logically prove how Geass’s plot and characters are shit. Judging an original artistic show like FLCL or Kaiba on the other hand comes down to opinions.

I think it is funny that you would put FLCL in your pile of pretty garbage when your attempt at criticism nothing but trite statements. Your blogging is just plain garbage.
Take a college level class on film. Then try again.
FLCL is good.
Also, keep the faggotry to 4chan or stop going there all together.

Very good review.
Diebuster is shit. So is FLCL. So is most stuff Gainax have made since Anno left. Gainax is only good like this: Wings of Honneamise -> Evangelion. After that the remaining staff went batshit insane and everything since has been LSD spewed bile.
It is strange that they tried to tarnish such a nice classic as Gunbuster with this crap. I wonder which will stand the test of time? The two shows are quite clearly in VERY different conceptions. It is like Star Wars OT and PT. Stop ruining well loved franchises with such cheap drivel.
You can only make a statement you like both if you: a) don’t really have any critical faculties at all and just like anime because its cool LOL and Im a lolicon pervert idiot or b) have split personalities.

Is it me, or does Nono look like Lala from To-Love-Ru?
