You’re out of line, Slegger Law!

I usually approve of most of the slapping going on in MSG, but COME ON! No one slaps Mirai. You just don’t do that. If only you could see my look of surprise as everyone else on screen got surprised.

Despite having an untimely death, I can really see that the personality of Slegger Law would go on to inspire many future memorable minor characters who are awesome and provide some kind of mentor role for the main character but sadly die early. Roy Focker from Macross and Gai Daigouji from Nadesico, which is basically a Mecha genre homage anime anyway, come to mind.

Harvest Moon: Sugar Village and Everyone’s Wish – Is this a decent addition to the franchise? You decide

The latest Harvest Moon game was released here in Japan for the PSP just a few days ago. From the screen shots I’ve seen of it in magazines I decided it might be worthy to pick up. Please note that this is a review of the Japanese version and probably won’t be in English for at least a year or so.

So, now that that is out of the way a little history first. I haven’t really sat down and played a Harvest Moon game since Back to Nature on the Playstation 1. I loved that game and Harvest Moon 64 so that is where I am coming from when I talk about this game. Also, this is based on just completing the spring season so far. If you want to read more about my experience with the Harvest Moon series you can read it here.

Clannad After Story 22 – GOOD END

family

So Clannad After Story is finally over. I really liked how it ended too. Although to me it felt kinda rushed or maybe I was just being too engrossed in things to really pay attention to how far in the episode was. Also, it felt a little confusing with the explanation of the whole other world and how things reset, and the time frame of those events with the reality of the show. Not to mention how Nagisa was aware of things when Tomoya was debating on calling out to her or not but I guess I could just chalk it all up as LOL MAGIC.

I feel it could have done without the whole thing at the end with Fuko because I thought it took away from the clips and the song that was playing before it, which I have been waiting for since season 1 to play. Other than that I have no complaints. After Story was definitely the better and more emotional half of the Clannad series, and yet it seems like After Story would be missing something if I didn’t watch the first season.

I really disliked the first season for some reason. Something to do with not topping my expectations and living up to Kanon and Air. But I feel that the events in After Story kinda put the events in season 1 into retrospect. It was essentially about two people, Tomoya and Nagisa, and their past and future together. I really hate to see these kinds of shows end because it feels like a part of me is gone. They’re fictional characters but it feels like I will never see them ever again. I’ve watched them grow up from high school into their adult lives and now it’s time to move on. Well, it’s not exactly over I guess since I’ve been going through the story on the PSP.

Still, I’ll miss the anime adaptation and I wonder what I am going to watch now that I have nothing to watch on those Sunday evenings? Well, in this case, I downloaded the other group subbing After Story since I have been actually really excited to see each new episode of this series ever since Ushio was brought into the story. So, I just couldn’t wait to see how things would end plus I wouldn’t be able to see it until maybe Thursday at the earliest since I’m going to Kansai to visit the setting seen in Air.

Looks like the bonus episode thing is next week or whenever, and it’s from Nagisa’s perspective. Should be interesting since I was after a while in favor of season 1 but only if they cut out all the other girls because it just seemed so crowded and unnecessary for the most part to try and fit the plots of all those female characters into one linking story. I mean it worked in Kanon and Air some what well, but Clannad just was kinda meh in that respect.

Oh well, I’m just rambling at this point. Tomoya and Nagisa are a cute couple and I’ll miss them. I suppose a Little Busters anime is probably not too far off now at this rate.

ALSO, WHY THE FUCK WHY IS MEI GROWN UP? DO NOT WANT. DO NOT WANT.

Whoa Gin-Rei is hot

OMG Gin-Rei is so hot. Green hair, elbow gloves, Cheongsam, great legs and Toshiyuki Kubooka character designs. Perfect.

Regarding Giant Robo, it is a little confusing, but I’m sure it gets better. The potential is there. I like the other characters but since things started some what in the middle of things I’m not really sure what to make of everything so it is a little boring right now.

A Ramba Ral is fine too – Need moar mass produced Gouf

fuck-yeah
Someone had to say it.

So yeah Ramba Ral is looking to be a great substitute for Char right now. He’s awesome and he definitely has skill. I really liked the fight between him and Amuro in episode 19. He just dodges lasers without really moving an inch. Whips out a beam sword which looks more like a sword than the Gundam’s. Amuro kinda gets the upper hand by cutting off Ral’s Gouf’s hands but that doesn’t stop him. Ramba Ral escapes using a hookshot like device via the slice in his cockpit. He grapples onto the Gundam to get to safe ground but not without taunting Amuro and saying that he doesn’t have skill and it was all just the Gundam’s abilities.

I must say that episode 19 has the most misleading episode title I have ever seen. It’s called Ramba Ral’s suicide attack. I thought he was going to die this episode but it was actually good to see him not kick the bucket yet because he proved to be really damn awesome by the end. I am really starting to see the appeal of mecha anime little by little.

awesome
I be dodging your bullets.

gouf
Gouf is awesome!

whoa
Amuro sucks and has no skill. Kinda like a certain female character from Code Geass.

Poll of the Month: Who do you support? The Earth Federation or Zeon

msg

I’ve been a little busy this month with school work and all this bothersome crap so I completely forgot about a new poll. This month is mecha related since it is Mecha March. Having watched about half of the original Mobile Suit Gundam at this point I have to ask fans of the original Gundam continuity. Who do you like more? The Earth Federation or Zeon?

The Earth Federation does seem to be more overpowered at this point since they have the Gundam but in my opinion their characters and mobile suits aren’t as memorable and cool as the Zeon’s. Amuro is so emo at this point, and probably gave inspiration for later mecha pilots. You don’t see Char trying to be independent, whiny and looking for the affection of the higher ranking people. (Actually I haven’t seen him in a least ten episodes) Still it’s no, not at all. Char is cool and calculating when it comes to stuff. He got Garma killed and still made it look like it wasn’t his fault. I’d like to see Amuro try that. But I will admit that the Earth Federation has better looking females though. Fraw Bow, Sayla and Mirai. Yeah, sure they don’t do much of anything except to annoy all the male Earth Federation members on White Base (and the male viewer), but good looking females is one thing Zeon just doesn’t have on their side.

I have a feeling the Zeon isn’t going to win this war, but they’re not going to go down without a fight. I fully support the Zeon and it is rare for me to root for the enemy, but I can’t help but like them more. I mean, they have Char, the classic Zaku, and countless other cool looking mobile suits that I am just waiting for to show up in the future. I’ve been playing the Gundam pod game here in Japan on the Zeon side and I don’t know if all the mobile suits seen are in the original Gundam though. Regardless, I like how they look. The Earth Federation Gundam and Gundams in general seem to have this boring sameness to them while it is always the enemies that have the cool looking stuff despite always being weaker most of the time. I wonder why it is like this? Maybe it’s the same kind of formula as why fans have an attraction for supporting female characters you never see much of. Hrm, I have no idea.

Compared to the mobile suits of the Zeon, the Earth Federation mobile suits just look like ridiculous toys with their white, blue, red, and yellow colors, and as I said they Gundams seem to just copy this pattern. The Guntank and Guncannon are just so laughably ridiculous looking in design. I wonder if they’re just totally scraped after this season of MSG? Probably. They’re hardly used as much as it is in the original series.

So, yeah Zeon is awesome. They have the best looking mobile suits, better male characters, not to mention less reused animation frames.

SIEG ZEON!

Going to Kasumi – The real life setting used in Air

air

The spring vacation is coming up and so I’m going to be traveling to the Kansai region and see the sights that way like Himeji and Hiroshima. On the way back I definitely want to check out Kasumi which we all know is the real life setting for the popular visual novel and anime, Air. Air has always been my favorite Key work and it has a special place in my heart. From its very touching and excellent soundtrack to the memorable characters and story. To see the setting in actual real form would be a dream come true, and something I personally could see myself regretting if I don’t do this. I was thinking of going in February but I opted not to due to it being still cold. It still is kinda cool around here but it is warming up. So hopefully it might get a little more warmer in the next few days, but knowing Japan things move at a snail’s pace. People and nature alike. It might not be the kind of temperature I would hope for but better than nothing.

I looked up on how to get there since there has been some resources and one guy even pretty much gave his directions there so I will probably end up doing the same for the most part. It’s about a 3 hour trip from Himeji. Hrm. I hope I don’t get lost. Also, I hope I’ll be able to find some of the spots like the beach okay. I plan to just stick around there for a while anyway. It’s kinda weird though since it’s like a small town in the middle of no where with a population of about 13,000 which was so bad they had to combine it with a neighboring town. I’m going to stick out like a sore thumb but not like I haven’t in the first place, but they probably don’t get any foreigners up there except the kind like me who just go there because it was the awesome setting in Air.

Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen – Average at best

I’m going to try and not go very hard on this game because it is, after all, a port of an NES game, and we all know how lacking NES games were back in the day. I completed this port of Dragon Quest 4 on the DS in a little shy of 30 hours. It was an alright game and I would recommend it for those that are just looking for an RPG to play that lacks very in depth game play and a very intricate and deep plot. That is where my problems begin. Dragon Quest 4 is essential a very simple game and once all my characters got together I stopped really caring about the story or lack there of.
