Hibikino Watcher vol 2 – Must find the others!

While I was in Japan, I found volume 2 being sold on eBay so I made sure to snag that. Actually while I was in Japan, I probably should have bought them off Japanese Amazon used or Japanese Yahoo Auctions but before I knew it I was too late. Not to mention lack of money. So, I’m really just counting on finding the rest on eBay someday unless I’m ever in Japan again.
So anyway, I don’t know if a lot of you are familiar with Hibikino Watcher. In Tokimeki Memorial 2 it’s the name of the monthly magazine thing that gives you new date spots and seasonal things that are going on in Hibikino (the town) as you play. Later Konami released 3 magazines with the same name. They all included a disc where the girls who were the main subject of each issue could now say your name (or any name you input) if you insert it before you play Tokimeki Memorial 2. Normally, it was just Hikari and Kasumi who could do this.
I’ve been seeking these issues for a long time now and they’re pretty rare from what I can understand. At least going for 100s on the Japanese auctions I’ve seen. This issue I got is volume 2 and has Homura, Yae, and Akane on it. Not my favorite characters at all. Although, they’re all pretty cool.
I must say that Japanese companies know how to pander to fans. The magazine is relatively short, but pack full of awesome stuff like interviews, detailed game information, and design sketches. I’ve only just started to glance over it but not seriously sit down and read it. I’m still in this OMG TONS OF JAPANESE TEXT! I CAN’T READ THIS phase. I think one of the most interesting things I glanced over was from the interview about Yae who is at first a hurt character but opens up much later.
In the game, she just quits going to school if you know her but not on a friendship level or what not. The designers wanted to invoke this feeling from the player like “Was it my fault?”. During planning they actually thought about having it that she commits suicide but decided that might be a little too much so they scraped it. I found that really interesting. For a game like the Tokimeki franchise that probably would have been a little much.
Another section I found amusing was there are questions where it’s Takumi (the main character’s friend who gives him girl’s phone numbers and what not) giving the answers. His image is shadowed out but you know it’s him. Haha. It just has trivial kinda stuff like “Do you know (Maeka’s) nice body’s 3 sizes during high school?” “Why doesn’t Akane wear a winter uniform?” “Why does Jun hate shrimp?” Stuff like that.
Definitely must find the other ones that I don’t have because if the information is any more like the stuff in this volume I would really like to read it. Also, the append discs would be nice to have too.
Whooo. How much did you say it was going for? I have a copy of vol. 2 myself that I bought cuz I had a thing for Kaori. Har har. I was looking to unload it, but unfortunately I’m in the States, and I don’t think there’s much market for them here…
I think I bought it for $18. Yeah, someone buying it in the US has pretty slim chances…
I actually have all four volumes, and they cost me about $120 all together. I’ve never tried to read them myself, because my japanese is not that good, but that’s really interesting about Kaori.
Wow, lucky! I wish I had all the append discs. Yeah these books have some really interesting info in them.
Yea, I got them off of Yahoo Japan auctions. Every now and then you’ll see them for sale there. Do you know any more interesting info about the characters from that book. Like I said, I have never tried to read them before, because my Japanese isn’t very good yet.
Oh, how did you get them off there without being in Japan?
Not really I actually haven’t really looked at it much since I wrote this entry. I should probably look at more of the staff articles some time. But I was reading it recently now that I think about it. I just find it kinda weird that Akane’s parents are out traveling, I believe, but she is kinda poor so she has to wear clothes you would wear in the summer but she wears them in the winter.
You’d think that with having parents that can afford to travel they would still support their kids.
I got them using a site called Rinkya. Using that site allows you to buy stuff from japanese auction sites. They buy the item for you and ship it to you. Their fees (because they have to make money somehow) are a little pricey, but they have a good reputation compared to some of the other online businesses that do it.
This is a little off-topic I know, but as we speak I am playing Tokimeki Memorial 2 for the 1st time and your dialogue guide as well the other guide on gamefaqs has been a lifesaver. Unfortunately for me I am past the point where I’m having to translate everything myself and it’s very difficult. The translating isn’t too bad, I’m just having a hard time understanding how the game works. You wouldn’t mind giving me any pointers would you?
I knew I should have posted like a translation for the dialogue prompts but I never did get around to that ever. Well, you should try the other faqs on there for help. They’re pretty informative too. The game is pretty straight forward I mean you work on stats and such. Who are you going for?
Miyuki. I have met her and just done the event where she crashes and you take her to the infirmary. At the end of the event she offered to do something later with me, but I have called her twice since then and she’s said that she’s busy. I guess I’m just having trouble getting my feet of the ground. Am i missing something?
Dunno. Might want to check the other faqs if you’re trying to get her events. Try raising your stats more that she likes. Did you join the Tennis club?
I think you’re right. Maybe I’m not raising the right stats. I’m raising misc. studies and exercise, but she still doesn’t seem to be interested (The little face when you call Takumi is frowning.) The guide on game faqs says to concentrate on sports, charm, and misc. studies, but I’m starting to think that I need to focus on all my stats more instead of solely just charm, misc, and sports, which is what I have been doing.
You should also try to arrange dates a lot.
